Background
- Comments about the work
- It is perhaps hardly surprising that Miklós Maros is the composer who haswritten most works for Ilona Marós. Of his 120 compositions, 13 were written forhis wife. Passacaglia for soprano and organ ( 1976) is based on a short text byEdith Södergran, the Swedish-speaking Finnish poet who has been a source ofinspiration to so many Swedisih composers. The composition outlines thebasic structure of the organ passacaglia, the soprano moves parallel to it orelse remains suspended, like a bird on the wing, above the ponderous, melancholy tones of the organ. The force of a brief organ interlude is matchedby a combination in the soprano. The word "hjärta" (heart) in the concludingsentence: "Vem vill läka sitt ettriga hjärta" is given the form of a high pitched, painful exclamation. Text: Ulla-Britt Edberg. From Phono Suecia nr 37 (1988) Translation: Roger Tanner
