- Comments about the work
- The inherent conflict between musical vision and sound-reality has led MiklósMaros to some intriguing compositional results. Unlike many composers of ourtime, Maros is disinterested by the schematisation of compositional-material;he realizes all too well that such techniques of sound-management onlyincrease the lingering discrepancy between inner and outer musical experience.Instead, indicating the boundless flexibility of the inner tone-world, he seeks theextension and expansion of sound within its own parameters. In the Four Songsfrom 'Gitanjali', for instance, the dichotomy between the nearly simplisticlyricism of the soprano voice and the extraordinary timbres of theaccompaniment creates a union of sonorities which should be unattainable witha more conventional instrumentation. The seeming contrast in fact onlyemphasises the lavish colours of the voice, creating thereby an astonishinglyhomogenious impression. Text: John-Edward Kelly. From Phono Suecia nr 23 (1992)
